Celebrating our Volunteers!

As we figure out a new norm with COVID-19, we thought it would be a good opportunity to recognize some amazing people: CUPS volunteers.

From April 19-25, 2020, in honour of National Volunteer Week, we’re shouting out a few of the thousands of incredible volunteers who have helped out at CUPS and highlighted a few from the past few months.

These stand-up citizens work tirelessly to spur progress in our city. They give their time and ask for nothing in return. They bring smiles to the faces of our clients and staff. They make a difference in building resilience in our community. And for that, we owe them our thanks.

Community Partners

We are so thankful to all our community partners, whose efforts go directly toward improving the lives of struggling Calagirans byway of our programs and services. There are too many to mention them all, but we’re giving a special shout out to a few of our long standing partners: the Hyatt Regency, the Calgary Stampeders, the University of Calgary and Brookfield Properties.

Business Community

Calgary’s business community holds a special place in CUPS’s heart. They provide countless volunteer hours, bring their skill sets and initiatives, and many businesses, including Cenovus, CIBC Wood Gundy, RBC and others provide critical support to the CUPS community.

Individual/Group Volunteers

Over the years, individual volunteers have selflessly given their time, skills, compassion and kindness. Your contribution is invaluable to those whose lives you’ve touched.

Thank you!

Now, let's roll out the red carpet and cheer on a few of our volunteers from the past few months!

U of C Haskayne Consulting Club
These incredible volunteers and future leaders from the University of Calgary Haskayne Consulting Club donated their time to prepare and serve hot meals to the participants of CUPS’ Nurturing Parents class. They also generously agreed to help out with child care to ensure parents enjoyed their class without worry. This group showed that building resilience truly is a team project!

PepsiCo.
This enthusiastic group of volunteers from PepsiCo volunteered their time to help out at CUPS, whipping up and serving delicious, hot meals and brownies for our Nurturing Parent night. Afterward they rolled up their sleeves to clean things up. What’s more? CUPS had a large group of children in our childcare, so these amazing volunteers stayed to help out with taking care of the kiddos. Cheers to that!

Bow Valley Flames Hockey Club
In late 2019, the amazing team members of the Bow Valley Flames Hockey Club set their hockey sticks aside and volunteered their time to help serve seniors at our surprise holiday party hosted by CUPS and Global Calgary. The team had a blast and brought smiles to the seniors faces. Thank you, Bow Valley Flames Hockey Club!

Gay it Forward
Gay it Forward  stopped by CUPS to help prepare and serve meals for our Nurturing Parenting evening class! What an amazing group of volunteers, who not only made some amazing food but were also eager to learn more about all the services we offer at CUPS and our impact in the community. Thank you Gay It Forward volunteers for your interest and hard work!

Wawanesa Insurance
A group from Wawanesa Insurance came by to generously give their time to CUPS. They rolled up their sleeves and got to work making 70 delicious sandwiches to add to our brown bag lunches, and also served coffee, tea and baked goods to CUPS clients  in our waiting room. They were wonderful at engaging our clients and got to hear some great stories, too.

Enterprise Holdings Inc.
Enterprise Holdings  generously donated their time to help out at two of CUPS’ Treat Thursdays! Not only did they bake delicious, warm cookies for clients and staff to enjoy, they also made sandwiches for our bagged lunch program for clients in the health clinic. Unstoppable!

Shell Canada
Rolling up their sleeves, the fine folks from Shell Canada put their creative skills to the test and made art work using tires for CUPS’ kindergarten kids to enjoy on our rooftop tarmac. In addition, they also created felt boxes out of pizza boxes for the Nurturing Parents Program, where they are used to help children develop fine motor skills and to help develop a serve-and-return connection with their parents. They also promote language and consistency while in use.

Steve & Aviva Canada
Since the moment Steve heard of CUPS, he has been coming by almost every Thursday with a stash of homemade baked goods, hot coffee and serves clients in our waiting areas. He’s become our very own Cookie Monster! The smiles he sees on clients faces makes the baking effort and time more than worthwhile. Steve understands that giving back is extremely important and says that Treat Thursday is "the highlight of my week!"  In this pic, he had some extra helping hands from volunteers from Aviva Canada.

We are so thankful for our volunteers! The spirit of volunteerism never tires. As we celebrate National Volunteer week,  we encourage everyone to proudly applaud volunteers. Without them, so much of what needs to be done would remain undone.
