Calgary, AB. – The 23nd annual CUPS/Calgary Stampeders Kickoff Breakfast will be taking place from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, at the Hyatt Regency Calgary.
The kickoff breakfast celebrates the start of the Grey Cup winning Stampeders football season by bringing corporate Calgary and Calgary Stampeders members together to raise awareness and funds for CUPS. In its 26th year, CUPS remains on the forefront of helping the most vulnerable individuals and families in our city.
“Given this year’s economic downturn, even more families and individuals are in need of help, making this event is all the more important for CUPS and those we serve,” said Carlene Donnelly, Executive Director of CUPS.
“All that we’ve been able to do for those struggling in our city over the past 26 years has only been possible due to the ongoing support of generous Calgarians and partners such as Apache Canada Ltd. and the Calgary Stampeders. We look forward to continuing this partnership as we empower Calgary’s most vulnerable. It is truly a privilege to be part of such a caring community.”
Over 50 volunteer staff from Apache Canada Ltd. donate their time and skills to the event which has raised over one million dollars for CUPS’ programs and services over the past 22 years.
“This year’s theme of Champions for Change really is a reflection of the giving spirit that is so prevalent in Calgary and Apache is extremely proud to present such a great event to benefit CUPS,” said Apache Canada President Tim Sullivan.
“CUPS is all about improving lives and their programs and services really are a game-changer for many less-fortunate Calgarians. Our team of Apache volunteers work hard to ensure the breakfast is a success and take great pride in helping champion this event every year,” adds Sullivan.
Over 400 guests are expected at the event, including members of the political and business community and Calgary Stampeders players, alumni, coaches, officials, and members of the Outriders. CUPS Stampeders representative, offensive lineman Brander Craighead, will be joined at the breakfast by Stamps’ President Gordon Norrie.
“The CUPS/Calgary Stampeders Kickoff Breakfast is a wonderful event with which we are extremely pleased to be involved,” said Stampeders president Gordon Norrie. “First, the event is a sign that a new football season is around the corner. Secondly, and even more importantly, the breakfast raises funds and awareness for a great organization like CUPS. I sincerely thank our friends at Apache Canada for the work they do in putting on this event.”
Please note: Cheque presentation is at 9:15. CUPS Executive Director, Carlene Donnelly; Apache President, Tim Sullivan; and Stamp’s President Gordie Norrie will be available for media interviews and photos at 9:30.
