CUPS named Top 10 Canadian Impact Charity
CUPS Calgary Society also ranked in Top 5 Charities in Calgary
The work by CUPS to support vulnerable community members and help them build resilience for life has been recognized on a national scale.
CUPS has officially been named one of the Top 10 Canadian Impact Charities of 2020 by Charity Intelligence Canada. This marks the fourth year in a row that CUPS has been recognized for their work in the social service sector. CUPS was first recognized in 2017. CUPS is also included in the Top 5 Impact list of Calgary charities.
The Top 10 Canadian Impact Charities list is compiled based on the amount of demonstrable impact that charities have had on clients and the community in the past year.
The global pandemic highlighted the need for CUPS and other charities to demonstrate their impact on an elevated level. In March 2020, when physical doors were closed, CUPS pivoted quickly to continue to support at-risk community members, offering virtual programming options and appointment-only health clinic visits.
“COVID-19 has impacted all of us, but we know that historically, the hardest hit by any developing crisis are those who are already well entrenched in one of their own,” says Carlene Donnelly, Executive Director of the CUPS Calgary Society. “A pandemic is stressful. And that stress is exacerbated for those dealing with poverty, racism or violence, making this a critical crossroad where resilience is tested like never before. It’s the support from our community that helps these individuals and families work through a crisis and build a foundation for the future.
Building resilience in our vulnerable populations isn’t the job for one individual or organization. It’s the combined efforts and knowledge, the sharing of best practices and working in collaboration that empowers individuals and creates change. Through that foundational philosophy, CUPS is working to elevate an integrated care model that addresses the health, economic, development, social and emotional support needed to build resilience and make an impact.
Charity Intelligence analyzed 260 Canadian charities and determined the top 10 with the highest measurable demonstrated impact using a Social Return on Investment (SROI) framework.
For every dollar invested in CUPS, there is a $10 social return, compared with the average return of one to two dollars. This shows the direct social and environmental value CUPS has on the community.
