Community Development

CUPS Community Development empowers previously homeless low-income families and individuals to connect with their community and expand their social networks. The sense of belonging these connections create improves housing stability, which in turn decreases the negative health impacts and trauma that results from extended homelessness.

The program provides a rental subsidy and works closely with tenants to increase their social interaction through involvement in community events and programs. Volunteers play an integral role in the program by providing life skills training and general support while families and children broaden their social networks through friendships and community connections.

In 2016, 390 adults and children were involved in the program. 95% of the households remained successfully and stably housed. Participants have formed tenant boards, dealt with building safety and security issues, held numerous meetings and events, and planted community gardens.
