Shared Care Mental Health Counselor (SCMH)
CUPS (Calgary Urban Project Society) is a non-profit organization that was established in 1989 with the aim of helping people overcome the challenges of poverty and attain brighter futures.
Since then, our work has evolved and expanded to include services in Health, Education and Housing that are delivered to thousands of adults and families each year. CUPS’ believes that the science of building brains and resiliency is essential to the work of helping adults and families achieve self-sufficiency and needs to be applied in all their practice. Advocating at a systems level to reduce barriers to services among CUPS target population is also critical to how CUPS works that assists adults and families in Calgary living with the adversity of poverty and traumatic events to become self-sufficient.
We have an immediate 1.0 FTE employment opportunity for a Shared Care Mental Health Counselor (SCMH) within our downtown health clinic.
This individual will report to our Mental Health Manager and will provide counseling and case management for clients that visit CUPS Shared Care Mental Health clinic. The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of community resources to advocate and refer clients as needed. Our ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of issues surrounding homelessness, women’s health issues, mental health and addiction as well as having some familiarity with the DSM 5, and knowledge and experience with providing Trauma Informed Care; Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), excellent communication and organizational skills with a sound ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
A minimum of 5 years experience in Mental Health counseling along with an educational background in the Human Services, particularly a Master’s Degree in Social Work or Psychology, or a Registered Nurse with a diploma in Psychiatric Nursing are requirements for this position.
Special consideration will be given to applicants with experience and training in the following areas: EMDR, Dialectical and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, Addictions and Harm Reduction, and group development and facilitation.
