Calgary Street Talk is a monthly newspaper published by CUPS Health & Education Centres. Street Talk serves a number of purposes: The words and images inside tell the stories of poverty and those who are working to overcome it, while sales of Street Talk provide our vendors with a source of income, social support and skill development. Every Street Talk vendor is involved in the production or distribution of the paper.
Selling Street Talk provides vendors with the opportunity to exercise the skills required to run their own small business. They buy their copies of the paper from CUPS and sell them to their customers by donation.
Street Talk means a lot to the vendors. It raises their stake in the communities they live and work in. As they talk with their neighbours and customers, they enrich the lives of the people they meet. Calgarians don’t just come away from such meetings with a heightened awareness of what it means to struggle in their city; they are also grateful for the generosity and public spirit of their neighbours, the vendors of Calgary Street Talk.
