Nurse Practitioner 0.6 FTE

CUPS is seeking a NURSE PRACTITIONER with a strong GENERAL PRACTICE background to join our Health Team.   As a member of our Women’s Health Team, you will play a key role in the care of our Women’s Heath patients in collaboration with our other Clinicians.  The role of NP within CUPS Health requires a community focus individual using concepts of primary health and general practice care for women.  Through this collaboration, the NP facilitates the provision of health care to women and their families through health assessment, health education and health promotion. The NP will demonstrate the ability to function effectively in a team environment with other NP’s, Physicians and other interdisciplinary staff, have exceptional time management skills and is able to take initiative.  The role also requires a high level of interpersonal skills to interact with patients and their families in a holistic and compassionate manner.

 Essential functions and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Gain a strong working knowledge of CUPS, including a clear understanding of its five year strategic plan as well its history and evolution as a leader in the social sector.
  • Diagnoses and treats patient’s illnesses and conditions within the Nurse Practitioner’s scope of practice; orders appropriate screening diagnostic investigations; interprets reports of investigations and analyzes information to monitor progress and plan treatment. As part of the multidisciplinary team, develops and implements treatment plans.
  • Establishes priorities for management of health conditions; provides follow-up treatment; communicates with patients and families about health findings, diagnoses and prognoses; supports and counsels patients in their personal responses to diseases, disorders and conditions.
  • Works in an outreach capacity at one of CUPS partner’s clinic in the community to provide improved access to prenatal and Women’s Health Services
  • Facilitates the design and implementation of health education programs with staff and patients on a regular basis particularly prenatal education.
  • Participates in formal and informal health teaching including the preventative health concepts concerning hepatitis A, B, C, AIDS, FASD, safer sexual practices, nutrition, sanitation, hygiene, prenatal care and well child care when appropriate.
  • Assists in training and supervision of students and/or volunteers


  • Current registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the Nurse Practitioner Association of Alberta (NPAA) and the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA).
  • Experience with pediatric population essential.
  • Additional training or credentialing is considered an asset
  • Up to date CPR certification. ACLS certification considered an asset.
  • Experience in community health & public health sciences preferred.
  • Experience in chronic disease management necessary.
  • Knowledge of patient-centered philosophy, change management, basic principles and practices of community service delivery, short-term treatment options and chronic disease management models.
  • Knowledge of community resources connected to the provision of health promotion and illness prevention related services.
  • Demonstrated skills in assessment, program planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • A team player capable of interacting professionally with staff with a positive “just do it” attitude
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to take initiative and work with limited supervision but within the guidelines of the position
  • Ability to work efficiently, both independently and as part of an inter-disciplinary team.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to change.
  • Computer competency & experience with EMR necessary.
