A Husky Helping of Toys
Christmas 2009 became brighter for more than 1200 children through the Husky Energy Children’s Giving Tree. The employees of Husky Energy and community partners, including Western Canada High School, worked together to provide a record-setting donation of toys—twice the number of the 2008 campaign. The gifts were shared among three social agencies: Awo Taan Healing Lodge, Inn From the Cold, and CUPS Health & Education Centres. Michelle Cameron, CUPS Manager of Fundraising Intiatives, thanked the Husky employees and their partners, remarking on the difference their generosity would make during the holidays for hundreds of Calgary families. CUPS has helped 240 families find stable homes in the last 20 months, and operates a Family Centre to provide case management & support services to families working to overcome poverty. Below: Husky Children’s Giving Tree participants celebrate the spirit of the season: (L-R) Yvette Rasmussen, Executive Director, Inn From the Cold; Carlene Donnelly, Executive Director, CUPS Health & Education Centres; Happy the Husky; Josie Nepinak, Executive Director, Awo Taan Healing Lodge; John C.S. Lau, President and Chief Executive Officer, Husky Energy Inc.; and students from Western Canada High School. Below: CUPS Executive Director Carlene Donnelly (above) and Parent Link Worker Andrea Desjardins examine the tremendous results of Husky’s Children’s Giving Tree campaign, culminating Dec. 16, 2009.
